or 2 7 6 4 8 9 5 1 3 . I like the 3's at the end because you can go through them really fast.

fizzbut, I've always wanted to ask you : how do you play these puzzles ? With the numeric keypad, or with the number row keys (or with a simulated keypad on a laptop) ? I've wondered ever since the beginning, when you told me you were attentive to the sequence of the numbers in the solution.

I should post a poll on the forum to ask how everyone plays.

I found it VERY hard, if not impossible, to play fast on a laptop.

FReDD, number row keys. That's why sequence helps alot so I don't have to look down to go to the next number. I would agree with you about a laptop, at least one without a mouse. I guess it would depend on what you use the most. Numeric keypad could be faster if one was use to using them, but since I use the mouse in my right hand (since I'm right handed) I would have to learn the keypad with my left hand which would take a lot of getting use to.

That's what I thought ! I just can't believe how fast you are. It's terribly difficult for me to use the number row, it would take me double time to complete the puzzles.
I'm right handed too, but I use the keypad with my left hand, the mouse with the right. It's awkward, but at least I don't have to look down at the keyboard, knowing the keypad layout by heart.

I don't know for the rest of the world, with qwerty layout, but on french keyboards you have to lock caps or press shift to use the numbers on the number row keys, so almost everybody types numbers with the keypad.
I'm so used to the keypad, I miss it terribly when using my laptop.

Wow, I had no idea that keboards work differently in different parts of the world. Except those that would use a different alphabet.

FReDD, I agree with you playing fast on a Laptop is not the same as playing fast on a REAL keyboard and mouse.
My fastest times always come with using the number row left-handed and the mouse right-handed.
Playing on a laptop without a mouse (using the trackpoint) adds at least 30 seconds to the clock.

fizzbut, I checked regarding the keyboard layouts. It seems that in Europe there are a lot of different layouts used (QWERTZ / QWERTY / AZERTY / ...) and a lot of diifferent new layouts, which try to setup the characters in different ways so that your input time can be reduced by almost 50%. But i dont think that has anything to do with Sudoku as the number row will remain the same. :-)

Thanks zunshiner. Learning to use one of these keyboards would be almost like learning another language. At least for your fingures. Or playing a piece of music where the scale runs G-A going up.
FReDD, if cap locks works on your keyboard, I would think that would be faster then using the number pad left handed.

wow this is interesting, i have adjusted to using the keypad with my left hand since i felt the distance of the number rows would be too far apart. but my play style is different, i usually look all over the grid for the next logical solution while moving the mouse and inputting the last known number. i guess ill try the sequential method to see if it will improve my time.
